Tara ‘I’m not being judged and I love coming in every day, bringing joy to everyone’.

When Tara first discovered Venture House in 2023, she was navigating the challenges of young adulthood while managing anxiety.

“I feel like this was the place where I needed to be,” said Tara. “I’m not being judged and I love coming in every day, bringing joy to everyone.”

Tara found more than community at Venture House. Since joining us in Queens, she overcame her fear of public speaking, and later spoke confidently before 1,300 attendees at the Clubhouse International World Seminar in Florida!

At our recent Times Square bowling benefit, Tara told her story in-person. Her story didn’t just inspire others, it inspired the event itself based on the model of our Clubhouse bowling nights.

But Tara didn’t stop there.

Through our Education and Employment program, Tara has proudly earned her Associate’s degree, and also recently found a job!

The employment rate for Clubhouse members is 69.3 percent, which is double the rate of people living within the public mental health system.

Life in the Clubhouse offers members living with mental illness a safe, inclusive space  where they can feel truly seen, heard, and supported.

Tara is one of more than 2,500 New Yorkers who receive support through our Clubhouses in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island.

Through programming that nurtures education, employment, civic engagement and the arts, Clubhouse members cultivate their unique talents to build meaningful, self-sufficient lives.

Join us as we continue our efforts to open doors and unlock new opportunities.
