Camp Isabella Freedman: Our Annual Wellness Retreat
Over 35 members attended our annual retreat at Camp Isabella Freedman through our Wellness Program. The three-day getaway offered hiking, boating, and campfires to support connection, relaxation, and recovery.
It was my first time experiencing something like this with Venture House, and I really enjoyed spending time with my friends. We explored the farm, spent time in nature, built campfires, and made s’mores. I even got to play a lot of sports.
We went swimming and hiking, and just being out there breathing in the fresh air, it was peaceful. When I came back, I felt like a new person. It really reset me.
I haven’t been on a trip in a long time. The last one I remember was with my brother when we were younger, and being in the water again brought those memories flooding back.”

Hilma af Klint Exhibition at MoMa: What Stands Behind the Flowers.
I’ve been with Venture House since 2009 when I was first diagnosed with depression. When I first joined, I started going to museums with peers, which was new to me. One thing I liked was that the staff were kind, and they taught me how to control my emotions and express myself through art. They also encouraged me to challenge myself. I have access to supplies and a space to be creative.
Venture House helped me cope through art. I have many installations throughout the Clubhouse that I’m proud of.
Art keeps me calm. It makes me feel good and I’m proud.
